Dr. Wayne Dyer
Over the past few years, I have gotten myself heavily into current events, politics and television, and with out knowing it, I had been allowing their negative agendas influence the way that I think. A few weeks ago I decided that I wanted to take more control over what I allow to influence my thoughts. I found that in order for me to be happy and successful, it would be necessary to avoid the doom and gloom that is produced by the main stream. I have been faithfully attempting to do this by substituting this old entertainment with positive success material.
Yesterday, I pulled a success CD out of one of my copies of Success Magazine. This issue featured a discussion with Dr. Wayne Dyer, one of the most successful motivators of all time. In his discussion, he offered a couple of points that were very enlightening to me. If you have ever heard of the “Law of Attraction,” then you will be interested in what I am about to share with you. If you do not know anything about the “Law of Attraction,” then go research it, then come back and be interested with the rest of us. He was discussing, in reference to the law of attraction, that the common flaw in attempting to use the law is only being concerned about receiving. Dyer suggested that when people do this, the only concern of the universe* is to receive as well. So individuals who think this way essentially become stuck in the proverbial catch 22, losing what they receive back to the universe. Dyer suggests that rather than having a gimme mentality, we should instead have a giving mentality, and the universe will follow suit.
His point was eye opening to me. I have first hand witnessed the works of the law of attraction, but have for the most part heard only of asking and receiving, never giving. This made perfect sense to me. For any of you who have ever paid a tithe to a church, or volunteered time to a good cause, you too have probably recognized unexplained blessings happen in your own life.
If you have not done such things, give it a try and see for yourself what happens. The idea is to do good deeds for others without expecting anything in return.
*Dr. Dyer, and other promoters of the Law of Attraction, frequently refer to the driving force behind this law as the “universe.” In our own studies of this concept, we have found no contradiction between our spiritual beliefs and this law. The law should be thought of not as a replacement to anyone’s belief system, but more so as an explanation to certain phenomena. (This is just a short thought about how we fit “the law of attraction” into our personal beliefs. We may expand a little bit more on the subject at a later time.)
