Goals Cont’d

After our huge explosion of views yesterday, I knew that I had to post about the most important part of creating goals; HOW TO WRITE THEM AND FOCUS ON THEM SO THAT THEY ACTUALLY WORK!

#1. SCRUTINIZE EACH AND EVERY WORD! For example, some time ago it would have been more “natural” for me to say, “I am grateful that we are out of debt” or “I am grateful that we can pay all of our bills.” Instead I said, “I am grateful that we are CURRENT on all of our FINANCIAL PROMISES.” I chose the words “current” and “financial promises” because hearing those words invokes positive feelings. They uplift and motivate me, rather than discourage and frighten me. If your goal is to “lose weight” for example, rather than repeating the word “weight, weight, weight” over and over as you speak your goal (which would mean you are focusing on *weight rather than the lack thereof), you should instead say something like, “I am so grateful for my healthy, physically fit body. I am grateful for my strong and tone muscles. I am grateful for the energy that I have to live an amazing and active life”. Every word in that goal I just wrote radiates feelings that are exactly what you want to feel; words like “healthy, fit, strong, tone, energy, amazing, active”. They are all GOOD WORDS!

#2. BE SPECIFIC! I have to share a secret that I didn’t share in yesterday’s post. In my July 17, 2009 goal I wasn’t specific about our living conditions. I said, “We live in a beautiful and clean home”. We LIVE IN! The beautiful and clean home that we are currently living in is NOT OURS! We are living in my Dad and stepmom’s home for the next 2 years while they serve a mission for our church in Moscow, Russia. It is beautiful and I keep it clean. (I do my best to keep this 5000 sq. ft. home clean with 2 little kids. It’s not perfect, but I feel like overall I’m doing a great job!) We have a close friend who admitted to us a several months back that they had made a goal years ago that they’d have $100,000 by the time they were 25. Well, 25 came…and guess what… this person had $100,000 dollars….but it was in their business and not for them to use. BE SPECIFIC; down to every last little detail. Use all of your senses; sight, sound, taste, touch, smell. The more specific you are…the more excited you can get, and the more grateful and blessed you will feel when you get exactly what you had in mind!

#3. REPEAT YOUR GOAL OUT LOUD at least 10 TIMES per day! As I said yesterday, I repeated mine enough, and it was concise enough that I memorized it quickly. I feel like there are a few reasons why it’s so important to speak your goals out loud. One of them I actually came across in a blog I was reading today. The author suggested that speaking our goals out loud causes us to be accountable to all who hear. Scott and I can completely relate since we are nearing 3000 views of this blog since Oct. 1st! That’s 3000 views that WE are accountable to for our giant goals! People tend to be a little lazy with themselves in their heads. It’s easy to give up on something if you are the only person you are letting down. Secondly, not only are you saying your goal out loud, but you are also HEARING YOUR GOAL! It’s like doing double the work in HALF THE TIME! There is something different that happens when we involve our sense of hearing. Don’t you notice that your entire mood can be changed, and your spirits uplifted by hearing something motivational? Or, in my case especially, hearing great music can alter my entire mind! REPEAT YOUR GOAL OUT LOUD! It will send that goal and those thoughts to the place you want them so that they can start doing their work, and that place is your subconscious mind. At least 10 times? Repetition is the mother of all learning. If you want to break a habit, or create a new one…repeat, repeat, repeat! Repeat until you believe it! I recommend that you read or re-read the posts, Thoughts Vs. Feelings and I’m doing all of the right things and NOTHING is changing Part 2 to refresh and give you a better understanding of the reason you want those thoughts and feelings to enter your subconscious mind.

Miracles have happened for our family over the past 5 months. We’ve been promised:

“Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock and it shall be opened. For every one that asketh receiveth; and he that seeketh findeth; and to him that knocketh it shall be opened.” Matthew 7:7-8

That goal in July helped us exercize faith that we would receive answers to our prayers. We are grateful for those answers and grateful for the knowledge and faith we had to allow them to happen for us! I’m sure after reading this you are ready to write some of your own goals! If you want any constructive criticism let us know. It took us some time to really begin to consciously add specific words, and omit others from our goals! HAPPY CREATING!
